Martinez Remains Upbeat

Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez remains upbeat despite watching his side concede a late equaliser at home to Tranmere.

The 1-1 draw meant it was 5 points dropped in the space of 4 days after losing 2-1 to Millwall last Friday.

Alan Tate put us in front against Tranmere 2 minutes before the break but substitute Chris Greenacre scored the equaliser late into injury time.

Martinez now looks ahead to 3 away games in a row, starting off at Northampton on Saturday.

After the 1-1 draw against the Whites, Roberto told the Evening Post:

'We got hit with a sucker punch which is disappointing,''

'Looking at the replay of the goal, it seemed offside, but it was very close.

'Things aren't going for us at the moment and we got punished, but on the other hand it's another point towards our tally.

'In any campaign you will go through a tough period, but it's imperative that we stay calm.

'Yes it's disappointing to concede in injury time, but we shouldn't be too down-hearted. I would be worried if it was Tranmere who controlled the game and looked like winning it and we were the ones who snatched an equaliser in injury time.

'But I thought we played as well as we have done in the first-half and controlled the game. Tranmere upped the tempo in the second-half, as you would expect when you are chasing the game.

'There are 11 games to go and 33 points to play for and if we show the same attitude and commitment then we'll be okay.

'I thought the fans were really supportive and understanding; and we need them to stay strong as well now.

'We've got three away games in quick succession now and we can't wait.''

Martinez could be boosted on Saturday with the return of defensive duo Garry Monk and Marcos Painter, declaring the pair are close to returning from injury.
