Martinez Hails Top Scorer Scotland

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has praised his top scorer Jason Scotland after scoring the winner in today's 1-0 victory against Huddersfield at the Galpharm Stadium.

He slotted the ball home from close range on the stroke of half time to extend our unbeaten run to 18 games and our lead at the top to 14 points.

Martinez said:

''To score 21 goals with still 13 games left speaks volumes of the season he's had.

''He holds the ball up really well and has a classy touch. Players like him don't come around too often.

''It was a great (team) performance. We knew we had to adapt to the way they play but I thought we created enough chances to put the game beyond doubt.

''I don't remember getting a result here in the last four years but I was pleased with the character the players showed.

''It was important to have a reaction for Monday's game and I thought the players reacted well.''

There was bad news near the end of the match though as he was stretchered off with what is suspected to be a broken toe.

If it is he could miss the rest of the season, and Martinez expressed his concerns:

'We are worried for Jason and it seems it could be a broken toe, so we have to be careful,'

'To lose any player is a massive blow but Jason has worked really hard to be in a situation as a striker where you've scored 21 goals.'

Swansea City also need to assess Andy Robinson who picked up a thigh injury in today's game.

Garry Monk was also missing with a back injury but he should return for Friday's home game against Millwall.

Sounded like he had a great game today, capped off with the winning goal. his injury is a huge blow to us but hopefully it won't be too bad and he returns before the end of the season.
