Match Reactions: Swansea 1-0 Luton

Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez praised his side's 'persistence and patience' after scoring a late winner last night at home to Luton.

Tom Butler scored the all-important goal with 11 minutes remaining to extend our gap at the top of the table to 11 points.

Despite having most of the possession, the Swans struggled to break down a solid Luton defence.

However, Martinez was confident his side would score and he told the Evening Post:

'I knew we would eventually score and I must praise my players for their persistence and patience,'

'There is still a long way to go however before we can start to celebrate. There are 14 games left and still a lot of points to play for.

'During the first half we needed to find a way of getting through their defence as they were hard to break down.'

Despite being 9 points adrift of safety, Luton held the League helders for most of the game and manager Mick Hardford said:

'We are very frustrated to lose to a goal so late in the game but we can take heart from our display.

'It was a much improved performance and we can take a great deal of confidence from this into our next game.

'With a little more luck and a little more care we could easily have beaten a very good side.'

With Swansea City 14 points clear at the top, we can now just sit back and see how the other teams do in today's fixtures.

It's 2nd vs 4th as Carlisle travel to Doncaster. Leeds face Crewe and Nottingham Forest travel to 7th-placed Leyton Orient.

it was about time we scored when we did, we had the most possession and it was just a matter of time before we broke them down. luton could have held on for a point but they look doomed to me unfortunately.
