Monk: Pressure Is On Rivals

The Gap at the top of the table has grown to 11 points after the 2-0 win over a Port Vale side fighting for their league one survival at Vale Park on Saturday afternoon.

Pressure has been heaping on Swansea's promotion rivals since Roberto Martinez's side have gone on an unbeaten run of league form; that has seen the club not lose a game since the 19th November against Huddersfield Town.

It is that run of form that has Captain Garry Monk insisting that the pressure is firmly on their promotion rivals. Who would disagree with him? Swansea have swept aside in recent weeks beat 2nd placed Doncaster Rovers 4-0 , held Nottingham Forest to a 0-0 draw and won over 1-0 play off contenders Walsall.

14 points could be the gap by the end of the week as Swansea play relegation threatened Luton Town on Friday ahead of Doncaster Rovers's game with 4th placed Carlisle on Saturday . Even more pressure could be piled on the teams pushing hard to catch the Liberty Stadium outfit with the Cumbrian's hosting 3rd placed Nottingham forest tomorrow evening.

Monk has also insisted that no one is getting complacent as the buisness end of the season looms large.

He Told the Evening Post:

"'It was important we got the win this weekend with the Doncaster and Carlisle games getting called off. They have seen that we've added another three points to our total and they know the pressure is on them to go out and win when they play their games."

'If we can continue winning, there will be even more pressure on the rest. They must have looked at the results this weekend and thought 'Oh, Swansea have won again, we're going to have to try to catch up again.I think we play before everybody else against Luton on Friday night and, if we can get another three points there, that will mean more pressure for the other sides who are up there.'

We genuinely don't believe we've achieved anything yet. We're looking to get points on the table every week and only when we've got a P next to our name on Sky Sports News will we say we're promoted."

'Nobody will be getting carried away because we know we've got a job to do. We will keep on pushing until it's mathematically achieved.'

Monk and the rest of the Squad are gearing up for the first leg of the regional final of the Johnstones Paint Trophy final tommrow evening, against MK Dons. With a mouthwatering tie at Wembley just 180 minutes away the former Southampton man is relishing the prospect.

Should Swansea over come MK Dons over the two legs then they will play either Morecambe or Grimsby.
