Martinez Pleased With Performance

Martinez Pleased With Performance

Swansea City have gone 11 points clear at the top of leauge after the 2-0 win over Port Vale this afternoon.

"terrible start with bad passing, poor control and just absolutely no vision"
Manager Roberto Martinez has praised his squad after overcoming a Port Vale side that in the first half looked to cause an upset after Chris Herd and Luke Rodgers went close to putting the leauge basement club into a shock lead.

Still fresh in the mind Martinez was firmly out to put right the shock 2-2 draw against Crewe last week. His fears were allayed on 65 minutes when Jason Scotland fired in his 18 th goal of the season from the Penalty spot despite the appeals from Port Vale over the initial decision to award the penalty.

Ferrie Bodde made it 2-0 after the ball came off the bar after a Thomas Butler strike, onto his body into the goal. Bodde's strike condemned the Vale Park outfit to their 5th loss in 7 games.

Postponement to the Doncaster Rovers Vs Leeds United game enabled the Liberty Stadium outfit to extend their lead on top of the leauge one pile.

The Spanish tactician has hailed his sides performance and indicated the winning mentality of the Squad played a big part in the result.

He Told the Evening Post:

'We had to be very good defensively and we were. Port Vale started the game a lot better than us and I was very pleased with the way we stood up to it.'

'We have had a lot of praise for the good football we play, but every successful team also needs the other side of the game. Teams who can't defend don't win many games.'

I was also pleased with the way we held our lead after scoring the goals. We let a 2-0 lead slip at Crewe last week and the way we saw out this game made a statement.'

'We have a very good winning mentality in the team and that should hold us in good stead. We've got 15 games remaining and we've put ourselves in a strong position.

Swansea now face a tricky test in the regional final of the Johnstones Paint Trophy final to leauge two table toppers MK Dons.

we didn't sound too good but if we're playing badly and still winning that's a sign of a good team
